Sunday Style Showdown | Black Boots

With the start of September, Summer is officially over *cue Just for Laughs ending theme*
This signals the start of the monsoon season in sunny Singapore. But fret not, these are what boots are made for: the rain. Get inspired with this week's Black Boots edit, our bid to welcome Autumn~

The BLACK BOOTS Showdown
El Christine
H&M black dress, cutout dress, feminine masculine style, cropped jacket
chambray shirt, denim, graphic print, dress, black boots, H&M black boots, city girl, chic girl, chic city girl
Black boots are like the autumn/winter season version of sneakers-- easy to match and come in many different styles. This week's outfit I chose to wear a pair of chunky boots because this is the pair that I would wear frequently. I like the blend of feminine and masculine elements in the boots. The chunky heel and the sole of the shoes give them a strong masculine edge whereas the heels and cut of the boots make them look feminine and polished.
To go with this idea of a feminine+masculine feel, I decided to go with a simple black cutout dress which has a feminine A-line low neck cut but in an edgy black colour. Going along with the style is the cropped jacket which shows off the feminine curves but has a boxy cut which contrasts against the curves of body.
I love my boots; in fact, I have several pairs of them. I'm a huge fan of black boots because they go with almost everything - but you still have to keep in mind your body shape to choose a cut that flatters you!
For this week's theme, I chose these black ankle boots with a low stacked heel. This gives me a sorely-needed boost in height but yet, is comfortable enough for me to walk a whole day in them without breaking a sweat. And because they are plain black boots, I went for a graphic print dress to add character to the outfit. The end result? A chic city girl vibe.
H&M black boots, chunky heels, tough looking, funky socks
blue wing tip liner, asos necklace, initial necklace, H&M geometric earrings
sunglasses, korea, giraffe ring, unique rings, statement necklace, Forever 21, Forever 21 statement necklace
chambray shirt, denim, tying it at the waist, chic, graphic print dress, close up
H&M black boots, low stacked heel, boots, black boots, H&M
Can you tell there's a triangle pattern going on in my outfit and accessories?
Haha. I like geometric stuff so I've reflected it in my outfit too. My dress's cutout in front is actually a triangular shape. To continue with the trend, I wore my black geometric H&M earrings and my happy green socks with colourful triangle pattern. On my neck is a necklace with my name's initial (E) which I feel helps to make my neck feel less bare.
**If you look very closely (>.<) at my eye makeup, you can see that I've added a turquoise wing tip on top of my usual black cat eyeliner to add a pop of colour for fun too.
This week, my chambray shirt holds a very important role in the making of this outfit - protecting my modesty. Hah.
I love this dress, truly I do, however, it is a little on the short side (even for me). By tying the chambray shirt over it, I avoid any wardrobe mishaps and at the same time, add a little chic touch to the overall mood.
Also, how unique are the sunglasses! Love the fact that it's in a matt green colour~

Sunday Style Showdown | Statement Necklace

Hello everyone!
It's time for the long awaited Sunday Style Showdown! We do apologise for missing the last time round. Due to some mishaps, we could not meet up. This week's theme focuses on the statement necklace, which have become really popular in recent years. There are so many affordable designs and options in the market now that everyone can easily get one for themselves! Scroll down and check out our personal way to wear our statement necklace :)

The STATEMENT NECKLACE Showdown
El Christine
Today I'm featuring my daisy necklace! I decided to go with a yellow long sleeved top as the colour scheme goes well with the daisies. I like how they match. Moreover, the top is plain with no patterns on it so it lets the necklace stand out. The chiffon sleeves of the top makes the top looks less heavy and thick, so it won't be out of place for summer. I would say my outfit is suitable for the seasonal transition from summer to autumn. For bottoms, I went with gingham pants as blue compliments yellow. Also, gingham pattern reminds me of picnics in summer. To end off the look, I've got my trusty Converse sneakers on, because you can never go wrong with Converse (in my world). The best way to show off a statement necklace, in my opinion, is to let it shine on a plain canvas. However, to not make it a total cliche, I chose a maxi dress that has a more unique colour - forest green. I added a belt to help with the definition of my waist (sorely needed) and placing it higher than the actual waist cirumference makes my legs look longer. The neon yellow sandals lends the outfit some colour!
The focus of this outfit is this lovely daisies necklace which I got recently! I'm so thankful that I managed to get the last piece and it seemed like fate that it was on sale too! Daisies add a summery feel to the look and really brightens the whole outfit. For added decorations, I decided to add a couple of midi rings that I got which dresses  As the title of the showdown suggests, the necklace is the focus of my outfit. Everything else, I kept it simple. I tried to keep everything colour coordinated by wearing green, blue and yellow too. Did it work? :)

The TROPICAL BONANZA Showdown
El Christine
forever
pull&bear skirt, tropical inspired style, plus size fashion, sunday style showdown, #sss, outfit idea, neon top pairing
When I think of tropical, I think of bright colours and flowers! There's also swaying palm trees, gentle breezes... Hence this dress fits the idea of tropical fever for me! I love the hi-lo cut which will capture any slight breeze that blows by. Plus, the cutting will make my legs still look long even though I'm wearing a long dress! I absolutely love this dress which looks like flowers were painted on. Despite the brightness of the dress, there's still a softness to the look thanks to the flowy skirt and the way the flowers are printed on the dress. If you Google tropical images, you will get palm trees, beaches and more palm trees. Hence, cue my background! Hehe.
The neoprene-like skirt is the foundation of my outfit - with the various flowers prints, it looks pretty tropical to me. The cutting of the skirt is also very flattering for people with a curvy figure - An A-line cut that is fitted on the top but has box pleats half way down. If you follow our #SSS, you know that I love my structured skirts.
I wanted to let the skirt shine but at the same time, I didn't want to use a plain white tee for that purpose. So, I paired it with a plain bright pink shirt! It's summer so, let's all inject some colour into our lives :)
Shades are a definite must when the weather is so sunny! I picked a pair with blue tinted lens so it'll match the dress compared to the conventional black. For accessories, I kept it simple with a bracelet made up of seashells and a wooden beads bangle. Mostly things derived from nature to go along with the tropical feel. Love love love the muted colour scheme of the skirt - looks as if it is a water colour painting! I really like the material used for the skirt as well - A thin neoprene-like material. I chose a white statement necklace to balance the prints on the skirt and to complement the colour of the skirt.

Sunday Style Showdown | Look Up

This week's #SSS features an essential summer accessory - hats and caps! Hats and caps are great to wear during summer not just because they provide some shade from the sun, they can also change the look of your usual everyday outfit - giving a more summery feel to it! It so happens that we chose a different head accessory each -- but this means you get more summer inspiration!
The Look Up Showdown
El Christine

One of my favourite things to own are hats and caps, because they're great for changing the look to any outfit. For this week's outfit, I wanted to put together a relaxed and casual look that's great for chilling out while on vacation or cafe hunting. Thus it's a simple outfit consisting of a basics-- a denim jacket and black dress. I prefer being hot than cold, so I don't die of heat while in a jacket during hot weather unless it's boiling. I leave all the attention to my hat. Throw on a nice pair of heeled sandals for that extra 'oomph' to the summer style! I only own snapbacks so that's what I went with. Snapbacks gives off this chill factor with a hint of edginess so I decided to play it up here with a graphic print tee and pleather skorts. The tee has a really nice silver holographic print on it, so I kept my outfit simple - black and white - to let it stand out. Looking pretty hip-hop eh? v(^.^) Alternatively, pair snapbacks with a little flowery sundress and sandals! The juxtaposition of the girly sundress and hiphop snapback works really well.

I picked a hat that's made of straw to give a summer vacation feel. I know that's a cliched way of thinking but I adore this hat because it always makes me feel pretty cool when I wear it ^^. So I decided to use this hat out of my many hats/caps. For other accessories, I kept it simple because in summer it's usually hot and I would not want to be burdened by all those weighty necklaces and bangles. Sweat and metal just doesn't mix well. So I'm just wearing a simple long chain necklace with a triangle pendant since it's lightweight and colorful. I got this snapback because it says CH on the top which is my initials, haha. Who doesn't want customized snapbacks? Besides the ubiquitous aviator style sunnies, why not try some circle sunnies? They are a fun shape to wear and lends a whimsical vibe to any outfit. But, of course, if you have a round face shape, avoid circle sunnies! Instead, get some cat-eye ones. Those will help elongate your face :)

Sunday Style Showdown | Summer Loving

How's summer going for everyone!

Today's #sss feature one of our summer styles! We live in a country that's pretty much summer all year round so we've come up with many ways of dressing to deal with the heat. We hope you're having a great summer so far and look forward to more "summer themed" outfits!
SUMMER LOVING Showdown
El Christine
I'm dressing for a BBQ party here (my sister's 21st party to be exact)! There's the quintessential shorts and a nice loose top typical of the usual summer outfit. Nothing too complicated since it's meant to be a chill party. However, just because it's a chill family party doesn't mean I can't add some edginess. Hence the studs that just add a little ruggedness to the whole outfit, along with the slits. I like to keep things simple and comfortable without compromising on the looks :) To be honest, I was pretty much lost in this outfit. Nonetheless, it's still a pretty versatile summer outfit - think BBQs, beaches, and water sports! Summer's pretty much all about tanks and shorts but if, like me, you're uncomfortable with the idea of showing arms, a kimono will do the trick - they are usually made of light and airy materials which are great for covering up in the hot sun - plus it's in trend now! The tank top I am wearing reminds me of the seaside with its red stripes and blue trim on white thing going on.

Because it's summer and a BBQ party, things are definitely going to be hot! So one needs some ventilation to catch any slight breeze:) I like how this top makes me feel like a off duty rock star sometimes. Hehe Since it's summer, I thought I would show a few must-haves items! Sometimes, a full-on foundation just feels really clogging and heavy in the heat. These times, BB creams are good substitutes, along with tinted moisturizers. Then, just spot-conceal! Next up, waterproof mascaras and a no-budge eyeliner. My go-tos are the Maybelline's The Falsies mascara and K-palette's 24 HR Real- Lasting Eyeliner. One cannot forget sunscreen in this sun for the body too! I always turn to Banana Boat for it. In the heat, you feel sticky and sweaty fast (or at least I do), so have the wet wipes handy to feel refreshed at an instant. As for lip products, sometimes less is more. Find a moisturizing one such as L'oreal's Rouge Caresse (Heart of Pearl) or better yet, a tinted lip balm.

Sunday Style Showdown | Print on Print

Hello again everyone!

Ever wondered how to tackle print on print looks? Well, we tried our hand at it for this week's #SSS!

The Print-on-Print Showdown
El Christine
print matching, prints on prints, uniqlo pants, gingham pants, plus size fashion, esprit top, sunday style showdown, ootd, wearing prints, outfit ideas
prints, sunday style showdown, matching prints, prints on prints, pairing patterned skirt, outfit idea, plus size, fashion, styling, funky prints
I styled my look around my gingham pants that I got from Uniqlo recently because I adore the pants! Gingham seems to be trending quite a bit recently. It's a cute but not overly girly print and can be worked into different kinds of look. For my top, I chose an off white long sleeve with sheer blocked print design on it. The sheer print makes it easier to carry off mixed prints because it's not as loud(although I love to mix loud prints too). It's a great way to mix prints in a subtle manner. As the colours of my clothes are quite muted, I went a little crazy with colours on my accessories, choosing to colorblock my pink bag with my yellow shoes and bangle. I added a cherry clip to complete the fun retro look that I'm going for.
Rarely do I buy skirts with prints but this one from H&M caught my eye (the fact that it was on sale doesn't hurt either!). It has a really interesting geometrical print with the play on squares and triangles. The color combination was quite unique in my opinion as well.
Sometimes, print-on-print may look like they are clashing with each other if not done right. To avoid this, I chose a darker colour top with muted prints to even out the colour aesthetics. This also helps to tone down the loudness of a print-on-print outfit. I added a white belt to help tie the outfit together. Since my outfit is quite basic in colours, I thought a brightly coloured bag will add some life to it! :)

Here's a close up of the print on my top-- notice the pattern is like roses but the lines are straight, so I think it goes well with the straight lines of the gingham print. To carry off print on print looks, I think it's easiest to get two prints with some sort of similarity between them, like a colour/texture/print. So in my world straight lined prints go together. I wore a black bandeau inside cos the top's see through. If you want to show your smashing body, wear a black tank or camisole inside so your figure could be seen through the top(I didn't have a clean black cami/tank for now). It's a great way of showing your body shape even if you have a bulging belly. *wink*
My cherry clip has a nice retro feel to it due to the colours and stripes. I really like this clip for the cute and fun feeling it emits.
If you noticed, the print on my top and bottom pretty much matches each other - both are in squares! Like El mentioned, the trick to getting print-on-print outfits to work is to find a point of similarity between the prints. So, if you have always wanted to try print-on-print but aren't sure how to go about it, try this tip!
If you're worried about the overwhelming prints, adding a solid colour belt will help make the ourfit easy on the eyes. The soild colour helps to break the otherwise visually demanding outfit into two, making it easier to process.

Sunday Style Showdown | Floral

Hello everyone!

It's our fortnightly #SSS again!
Since it's Spring/Summer now, we're totally feeling the floral mood. Plus, flowers have been blooming all around Singapore due to the drastic weather change. Thus, for this week, we decided to battle it out with flowers (on our outfits)!
Read on and vote who wore it better! :)

The FLOWER GIRL Showdown
El Christine
I love the floral skirt I'm wearing because of the bright colours!I paired it with a white top with a ruffle edge that is simple and pretty(so it's pretty simple? Lol). My arms aren't the stick thin kind, but the weather has been so hot, that I just have to wear something sleeveless. For cooler days, add on a simple cardigan to the outfit! It's getting pretty warm in Singapore now that Summer is almost upon us. Thus, this casual top and shorts combo is perfect for this cray-cray weather! Although it's a mid-sleeved, the top is made of a light material (chiffon)and has these mesh cutouts at the shoulder to combat the heat. For those who don't like really loud floral prints, finding one like mine with these subtle little flowers all over is a good way to wear floral (Spring/Summer trend!) but yet stay relatively 'quiet'.
The rest of the outfit is pretty simple because I wanted to let the skirt be in the spotlight. Thus I accessorized with a simple brown bag and black bangle with floral details. For shoes, I have on my white ribboned platforms which match the overall colour scheme of the outfit. I decided to pay Spring homage and bring out the pink in my outfit - an SS14 trend too! To wrap things up, I paired the pink with a brown cross-body bag and sneakers, giving the outfit a somewhat LA feel. Keeping accessories to the minimum, a pink flower ring to fit the theme and a geometric necklace to break the floral print a little. Also, instead of the usual high-up ponytail, why not try a low ponytail to the side? It's just as easy and makes for a more elegant hairstyle too.

Sunday Style Showdown | MONOCHROME

Hello everyone!
For this week's SSS, we're challenging the all-season style - Monochrome!

If you want a dictionary definition here's one!

Monochrome(adj): being or made in the shades of a single color;
having the images reproduced in tones of gray.
(definition from Dictionary.com)

Without further ado, scroll down and have a look!
The MONOCHROME Showdown
El Christine

I thought it would be nice to do something besides the classic black+white monochrome look. Thus, my monochrome look comprises shades of red. Why red? That's because it's one of my favourite colors and therefore, I have lots of red stuff. Many people say horizontal stripes are fattening but I think if you make certain adjustments, it'll be ok. Like in my outfit, I decided to 'block off' the side of my body with a solid colored vest so that the stripes don't 'expand' the sides of my body. The vest gives me a body shape, and it also adds this boho/hipster vibe; perfect for visiting a place like Haji Lane (where this photo was taken). I wore shorts just because the weather has been so hot lately. I end the outfit with my usual pair of Converse (I love those pair way too much, I know).

I am simple-minded. You tell me Monochrome, I give you black and white.
So there.
I have to say, I love, love, love the skirt I'm wearing. It is high-waisted, structured and in an A-line shape: perfect for the stumpy, curvy me. And it has a really pretty white lace print on a black background, not to mention it's in white. Very spring indeed.
To give the outfit some depth and character, I paired the skirt with a knitted slouchy top. This gives it a chill factor; perfect for going shopping, brunch and a girl's night out! If it's too warm out for a knitted top, change it to one made of chiffon to match a structured bottom. Just remember to keep the top flowy and slouchy for contrast.

My arm candy for this outfit includes my favourite red leather+metal strap which I like for its grunge look. Then there's my orange/red bracelets from H&M that I added to brighten things up a 'lil, because most of the outfit was entrenched in deep red.

I am going to talk more about my amazing white skirt. Did I mention it has pockets? No? Okay, I am mentioning it now -- The wonderful skirt has pockets too! It's a total bonus when skirts (and dresses for that matter) has pockets! Plus, the lace details are noticeable enough from afar (pretty swirly pattern) yet subtle enough for multiple uses. Just know that j'adore la jupe.
Also, shoutout to the cutout boots. Ain't it a pretty mint? *winks*

Sunday Style Showdown | COLORBLOCK

Did you enjoy our first SSS? :) Since no one commented, we decided on a tie. HAHA. We sure hope you did enjoy it though. This week, we have in store for you:

The COLORBLOCK Showdown
El Christine
Well, I wanted to do a colorblock look without using the usual bright colors that I usually see in social media and magazines. I thought it would be fun to try a pastel element for colorblocking since it's spring and all. Plus the top has this beautiful lace detailing at the chest area, which adds on to the spring vibe. For shoes, I'm wearing my favourite Converse. I actually had another pair of shoes that would have gone so well with this but they broke! For a fancier look, choose white shoes. First off, a disclaimer: I SWEAR I DID NOT NOTICE THAT I WAS WEARING H&M HEAD TO TOE AT POINT OF SHOOT. Back to the topic, colour block. For me, the term colour-blocking always invoke an image of someone wearing two different bright colours and that's what I tried to do here. After all, what's colour blocking without a little colour? This shockingly pink tee I wore is plenty bold by itself and is bound to attract attention wherever you go. Hence, if you're like me and don't want too much attention, tone it down a notch by pairing it with a darker coloured bottom.

For my accessories, I decided to brighten things up a little. I chose orange/yellow accessories because they're complementary to purple. It's interesting to have bright colors to contrast with the pastel. I wore the turquoise stone bracelet to make the orange standout more (remember your colorwheel!)
I decided to do a fringe braid hairband because I wanted to have my fringe back. Braids are the perfect way to wear your hair for spring!
As the neon pink shirt is the focal point of the outfit, I kept my accessories simple. I chose silver accessories to colour-coordinate with the silver buckles on my skirt while I chose white as the 3rd colour of the outfit as it is the fail-safe colour to match with everything (as is black). Remember: if your outfit is attention-grabbing and you don't know what accessories to wear, just keep it simple! :)
